ThemeParks.wiki API 1.21: New Search Endpoint

tldr; The ThemeParks.wiki API has a new endpoint, GET /v1/search. Supply your search string and get a list of entities that match, with the park and the place each one is in.

The ThemeParks.wiki website search (Ctrl+K) is now powered by this endpoint.

curl 'https://api.themeparks.wiki/v1/search?q=space%20mountain%20florida&limit=1'
{
  "query": "space mountain florida",
  "results": [
    {
      "id": "b2260923-9315-40fd-9c6b-44dd811dbe64",
      "name": "Space Mountain",
      "entityType": "ATTRACTION",
      "attractionType": "RIDE",
      "match": "WORD",
      "location": { "latitude": 28.4188, "longitude": -81.5782 },
      "park": { "id": "75ea578a-...", "name": "Magic Kingdom Park" },
      "destination": {
        "id": "e957da41-...",
        "name": "Walt Disney World® Resort",
        "country": "US",
        "region": "Florida"
      }
    }
  ],
  "hasMore": true
}

Until now you needed an id before you could ask for anything. To get the wait for Space Mountain you downloaded /v1/destinations, walked down /children to the ride, and only then called /live. Now you search, take the id, and call /v1/entity/{id}/live.

Many rides share a name, so each result says which one it is. park and destination tell them apart, country is an ISO code (US, GB), region is the state, province or nation, and match says how the name matched. Results come best first. hasMore is true when there are more than limit.

What is this and what is it not?

The new API is an entity name search.

Fuzzy searching allows for some typos to be handled gracefully. Eg. "spce mountin" still finds Space Mountain.

You can enhance searches by including a park name, country, or region. Eg. "space mountain florida" or "space mountain magic kingdom".

This is not an AI-assisted search, you cannot ask for "give me all rides in Florida" etc.

Privacy

We do not keep a list of what people search for. If a search ends in a server error, the term can appear in an error log line, which is kept for 8 days. The privacy notice has the detail.

A search that finds the wrong thing is the most useful bug report we can get. Tell us what you typed and what you expected, in Discord.
